Alfred Riley Kirkpatrick was born on 20 Nov 1839 in Arkansas.⁽⁶⁾ He died on 2 Jan 1913 in Alton, Oregon Co., Missouri. ⁽⁶⁾ Alfred Riley Kirkpatrick (AKA Alford Riley), enlisted in the Confederat e Army in 1861, as a private in the 7th Arkansas Infantry; promoted to s ergeant; he was captured by Union forces under General Sherman near Atl anta, GA on 22 July 1864; he was later paroled from Camp Chase, OH; he m arried /1 on 6 Dec 1868 to Viola Kidwell of Oregon Co., MO; he married / 2 about 1887 to Mary E. Huddleston of Alton, MO; it is believed he had n o children by either wife.

On the 1880 U. S. Census of Alton, Oregon Co., Missouri, Alfred and his w ife Viola are hotel keepers. Viola's brothers William C. Kidwell and J oseph Kidwell are living with them. They have 4 men boarders in the ho usehold.

On the 1900 U.S. Census of Alton, Piney Township, Oregon Co., Missouri, A lfred and his wife Mary E. are farmers. They have two servants living w ith them, Modena C. Winford born July 1884 in Missouri and James Martin , born May 1866 in Kentucky. No children are noted of the marriage.

He was married to Viola Kidwell (daughter of James F. Kidwell) on 6 Dec 1868 in Oregon Co., Missouri. Viola Kidwell died between 1886 and 1887 in Alton, Oregon Co., Missouri. She was born in Oregon Co., Missouri.
